LAURA N. BOYER, M.S.S.W.
Over the past 16 years, Laura Boyer has worked with students and families to help them navigate the educational and social aspects of high school and the college application process. Laura's experiences working in higher education and high school college counseling along with her graduate work, which focused on adolescent development and family dynamics, allows her to be aware of the many challenges and opportunities created by this exciting, yet demanding time period.
Laura has worked with hundreds of students and families seeking a range of college options, as well as general guidance throughout high school. She is a firm believer that adolescence is a period of great transformation for teens and a critical time for parents/guardians and educators to collaborate to give students skills to become responsible for their education and ultimately their lives.
Understanding that mindfulness plays a powerful role in the realization of self-awareness and ultimately empowerment, Laura began exploring ways to integrate this into her practice. She has partnered with James C. Brennan, the founder of JEKL, which is a neuromuscular training facility that is predicated on five principles that link mind and body with one's energy, a clear path to personal empowerment. In an effort to truly understand the transformative nature of mindfulness, she too embarked on that journey of self-exploration and began applying the JEKL principles to her life. The synergy between Boyer Educational Consulting and JEKL allows students to pause and evaluate how they want to build their educational path while developing tools for empowerment and skills for life. In addition to managing Boyer Educational Consulting, she also spearheads the educational consulting and outreach at JEKL.
Prior to establishing Boyer Educational Consulting, LLC in 2005, Laura was Director of College Counseling
at Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury and worked as both a School Counselor and Director of College Counseling at The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD. She also worked at The Ethel Walker School as college counselor. Laura began her career as Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at New York University and also worked in the admissions office at Union College in Schenectady, NY. Her experiences in both large and small school admissions strengthens her understanding of this
complex process.
Laura received her Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University with a clinical focus on adolescents and families. She graduated Cum Laude from Union College with a BS in Psychology and a minor in Music Performance. Laura currently resides in her hometown of West Hartford, CT.
